This is a beauty. Need to look at it sideways. But it is f&e tank overflow terminating into the cwsc of a fortic cylinder

Come across a few this week. Today I saw this. This boiler is a Ferroli Modena 80 E, combi and must be 15 years old. Installed in an airing cupboard, the installer obviously couldn't be bothered to fit the correct flue, so just used the old open flue instead and then used some pipe which went about 1 meter in to the loft as an air intake. Oh and the loft had no ventilation either.

This one isn't so bad, but still the installer needs to take a look at themselves in the mirror.

Worcester Greenstar R28HE, firstly for some reason they used a vertical flue rather than going horizontally out the wall the boiler was fixed to. Strange, but they then used the wrong flue outlet adaptor. The one fitted wouldn't allow the exhaust to slide up over the adaptor, which was causing the POCs to spread in to the air intake side and corrode the adaptor clamp. Because the adaptor wouldn't fit up far enough, some wood screws had been used instead of the correct screws. When I replaced it with the right one, the flue hadn't even been pulled down far enough to sit in the adaptor either. All checked now and it's working fine.

A friend who's done work for a local Indian restaurant asked me if I could provide a landlords cert for the flat above (owned by the restaurant).

Apart from the fact that they wouldn't let me near the meter to perform a tightness test, the gas valve was corroded, there was a fitting for water on the gas line, the flue was badly installed and the PRV was a bit of rubber tube and the boiler was leaking at the H/E.......it was lovely.

The owner was flabbergasted when I enlightened him....he thought it was fine, and didn't want it switched off as there were kids in the flat and they would need hot water!!

1.jpg2.jpg This plumber forgot the first rule of plumbing - "Sh** rolls down hill". Also it seems that if a stopcock is knackered, just fit another one (we've all done that) but if that one goes, well just fit another one.....and so on!!

I realise that the first picture the trap has just slipped down, but it shouldn't have been able to, and had been like that for a while. Was full of sludge.:)

the lesson here is one clip on any length of pipe is useless so remember children ,one clip bad two clips good

He got his certificate it just said do not use not all is fine

The guy was pretty adamant that Selkirk Flue should not have been used & only Ferroli flue should be used. To be honest, I wouldn't connect any fan flued boiler to an open flue pipe, even if they said it was ok. There's no seals for a start & under positive pressure you are asking for trouble in my opinion. The flue wasn't installed correctly for an of boiler either & the loft had no vents for the air intake, so it's still I.D. as far as I am concerned.

I don't want to say you're wrong, you seem to be quite certain it can be used, but I don't want to get screwed over for it. On the info I had, the flue was wrong.

I can't find any info on the Ferroli with the twin wall flue. I've downloaded the manual, but it doesn't mention it in there, although the combustion chamber door is rounded rather than squared off like this one. It does mention about 2 pipe flue systems, but on shows the terminal as a normal single type.

Has anyone got any further info or documents to suggest this is actually correct & that it is still suitable for use?

i cant find any info on it but years ago i came across the same set up but it did have a purpose made adaptor,i checked with ferroli tech at the time and they said it was allowed, personally if ferroli said its not allowed now then i would ID it

Wonder how many times thats blocked up

Luckily its not tenanted. Is actually a flat that is inside a local labour club and is provided for the steward to live in. He, however has his own home. Hasn't been lived in for a while though he has been known to crash there after a few too many :)

None , if it had last plumber would have changed it flexy one

None is correct. I am the last (and current) plumber. No action taken because its untenanted (see my last post) i swapped a really manky old alpha boiler and did various other minor jobs. I was told that previous plumber advised that combo of pan connectors ti allow the c/c toilet cistern to sit against the wall lol obviously never occurred to him to build a box :)

this is similar to the one i saw that had a flexi in this position that had ripped. I quoted to replace with fittings as above, customer decided not to go with it and got someone else to do it, I turned up a few weeks later as they still hadn't sorted it and it had been replaced with a tumble dryer style hose, with several holes in it, poo everywhere.....

How do you turn pic right way up?

Check out this little number, been roped into doing a 'proffesional bodge' for a landlord. Makes me cringe but its a job that needed doing. Bathroom is/was a damp ridden dungeon /celler with zero ventilation or window. 1970's pick suite (staying!), 6x6 contract tiles with a makeshift DPM behind.

I'm using black grout aswell as any white grout won't last two mins, whole house infested with woodworm and the worse shower damage imaginable, shower had to be moved to other side but nowhere to put it as it was the old fireplace 100 years ago.
