I would be eally greatful for any advice here is the problem

We have a very old house, the pump broke that runs the central heating from a boiler behind our coal fire. My son who has just finished a course in plumbing put the new pump in, that went fine and we had warm radiotors once again but now we can't get any hot water, we have checked everything bled this and that (don't know technical things) but it's all been done, my son believe there is now an airlock from the boiler behind the fire and it's stopping the tank from heating thus no hot water. Another plumber told him it would clear itself and to keep a fire going to push the air up eventually coming out of the top of the tank or whatever it's called, he said it was safe...help please

The coil in the cylinder could be airocked. Did this happen pretty much straight after your son did the work? Do you have an automatc air vent on the cylinder coil pipework?

Thanks for your quick respons it is much appreciated
It happened soon after the pump got installed. There is a vent on the top of the cylinder and my son said this is where the pressure comes out it is pretty much basic as it is so old a system

Have you checked all the rads? are the up stairs and Downstairs working?

Ask your son to double check he has both valves open on the pump!

Also, is it gravity fed to the cylinder or do you have another valve? with a box on top??

yes all the rads are working and both valves are open on the pump, the cylinder is gravity fed
Thanks

Hi, Sounds like air in the gravity F/R. Turn the pump off leave a fire burning this will heat the water in the flow pipe to a high temp, when noises start to happen (boiling) switch pump on to cool things down. This may well clear the air. Good Luck
