re: Hints, tips & secrets of plumbing - No Banter please!

I'll second it that pushfit and chrome plated pipe is a disaster waiting to happen. Even with compression joints I rub the chrome off the part where the olive grips. As I've known the chrome plating to hairline crack and then the joint to drip.

Easiest way I've found is the use rough grade emery cloth, a long strip and just back and forth it around the pipe. Best place for emery cloth is Toolstation.

Right, back to work!!

re: Hints, tips & secrets of plumbing - No Banter please!

Got emery cloth and rothenberger strips in the van and to cap it I had them there when I did this job...feel such a fool now...still Thanks for the knowledge, it all makes for a better tradesman.....

Oh well thanks, the other night it was late and I only had a pushfit and a chrome elbow left whilst fitting a bathroom radiator.....looks like I need to go round and freeze it and then change it for a comp 90....

Thanks for the advice, looks like this may have saved me a BIG issue.....

If you ever have to do it temporary (you shouldn't) wedge the fitting onto the pipe so there is no room for it to blow off.

i've just realised the first ever tip on this thread was about not putting pushfits on chromed copper pipe lol.

Always remember to put your nut onto the oil pipe before you flare the end over

This morning the cheeky beggar rings up telling ME my bill was to high.........No Call Out was charged, anyhow apparantly that's standard practice for this Joey.....You can't win em all........No further discount was given i can assure you of that! lol

In instances of using fischer fixing bolt kits for basins if its in a job spec or its your preference, I use a standard drill on a non hammer drill setting. Place the bolt in the chuck threaded side (but not torqued up to the hilt so you dont damage the threads even though this has never been a problem for me) and use the drill to wind the bolt in to either the plug or straight into the timber patras in situations where its a boarded wall and its zaps the bolt in quick and with little effort. Once secured in the wall a quick turn on the chuck to loosen it and pop the drill off. Bolts in the wall secure fast and easy with little effort.

Just find it saves me time and saves me using an adjustable winding it in by hand slowly and I have used this menthod many times without a problem.

Funny you should mention that! Ive been locking socket sets they look like the mutts and my tool arsenal seriously lacks a decent set of socket tools.

re: Hints, tips & secrets of plumbing - No Banter please!

I have just looked at similar Teng 1/4" socket sets & they are a lot cheaper (under £40) & seem top stuff. My brother has a couple of Teng sets & very impressive.

ive got the teng set on the van
