i had a trianco 100,000 btu external oil condensing boiler fitted in my 3 bed house, now it keeps sooting up and cutting out, Trianco said it is too large for the house thus not their or the boilers fault ! we changed the nozel down to 0.75 and this helped a little but it still soots up 3 or 4 times a month, what shall i do ? i have had the engineer out 5 times this year changing nozels and things, i have had several emails to and from trianco and it just will not run properly,, i want to sell it, can i do this ? or is the boiler faulty ? Please help i am not in a position to completely write off a £1,600 ish boiler that is only 1 year old ! and advice ?

unlikely your boiler. if the same engineer has been 5 times. obvious solution is to change engineer. calculate if you can roughly the kw heat input required by your radiators and hot water, add 25% gives you the kw needed at burner.

burner output is governed by nozzle size, sounds like you could easily drop to a 0.5
another reason for sooting, is nozzle shape, solid, semi or coned and the angle of spray, most commonly 60 degrees.

ring oftec, or check website. get a decent engineer in to sort it once and for all, an easy job.

Hi Leanne, where abouts are you in the country, I'm an Oftec registered engineer and like a challenge :)

It's not the boiler itself. Could be inadequate ventilation, a failing oil pump, wrong spray pattern or incorrect distance settings of nozzle / blast tube.

I have recently had similar grief with a similar boiler (although not external) and to cut a long story short the balanced flue supplied by trianco cannot supply enough air for there range rated boiler above 100000 btu this was direct from the trianco service fellow - direct to my self (face to face). There are 3 solutions: -

1. down size the input below 100000 btu

2. alter flue to open type

3. remove and install a decent boiler

The words direct from their technical department (after 3 trianco engineer visits) - Just reduce nozzle size and down rate it as little as possible and adjust air to get cosistent firing and acceptable CO2 reading

and the moral is fit a Grant or Wb
