Hi, I just registered with Gas Safe, about two weeks ago. Does anyone know where I can get experience. All companies need engineers with few years experience in breakdown, installation etc. I just finished the course, how can I find a job with out experience? Please help, if someone knows. I live in West London.

Lie about your experience

Get experience before you get sacked for lying

So you have done some fast track course, got your acs, got registered with gas safe and haven't a clue where to start to learn the job?

Great system isn't it.

Catch 22
If you blag you way into a job you will be kicked out before the end of your first day.

So gas safe, registered you with out checking you had relevant experience and you got through an ACS without demonstrating that you had relevant experience? So no criticism to you, but question the robust system of assessment and registration as this has cost you. Or may be you are under estimating your ability and could quite easily fit in with a main stream company,; just need to feel more confident about your abilities.

Loads of national companies would give you a chance. All process driven and have dumped the experienced installers.

Could you enlighten us by telling how you got GS registered without proof of working with gas ? what's going to happen on your first call ? does it not bother you that some one could die ! This takes the P--S out of the system why the hell do we bother keep paying into something that will let anyone in as long as they pay the cost, How meny Rumanian's & Bulgarians will get free access to the system when they walk into the UK next year, just as well close down GS and let any one do what they like.

You could try working unpaid or do labouring for labourers pay with an experienced engineer

Hi tomo. Sorry you've had a slightly hostile welcome to the forum. It's not through any fault of your own. It's the system that is all wrong. I'd strongly advise that you find a local gas safe guy to shadow for a few months at least.

Again the problem I foresee is what small business would allow a potential competitor access to their knowledge and customers.

Dunno mate, I agree that I am honest and reliable to my current employer but when I was the employer many of my 'trusted' employees shat on me big time.

Feel quite sorry for you Tomo, but there are ways forward. Look on the positives here. You have got all the qualifications and paperwork, just need a break with a big company, that will sort you out. Where are you based? Pm me if you would rather chat in a more private environment, I may have some idea's.

He hasn't said he is qualified with no proof of working on gas, but he is realistically saying he has a cert but limited experience and wants to do the right thing and get some experience.
There are 1000's of qualified people who had NO experience when they passed their ACOPS, as a time served plumber I was one of them, but hard work and being conscientious and focused kept me right and got me where I am now
