Hi I am a builder and I need some quotes for a relative for a new central heating install in Birmingham B43 area (Great Barr). I have considered doing it myself but to be honest I am not gas safe registered and don`t want the hassle if anything went wrong.

At present they have the old type copper cylinder in upstairs cupboard but don`t want boiler in same place so it is to go in another bedroom or downstairs in outhouse if that is possible.

They live in a semi detached ex miners house (tin)so all walls are all timber studded and it is 3 bedroom. Room sizes as follows:-

Lounge 14`x 12`
Diner/kitchen 21`x 9`
Hallway 12`x 7`
Bedroom 1 12`x 12`
Bedroom 2 12`x 8`6
Bedroom 3 10`x 9`
bathroom 7`x 6`

Floorboards are the wide/long type not individual boards. All pipework to be hidden under floorboards upstairs and all downstairs pipework to be hidden in white plastic boxing. The gas pipe is downstairs and is 22mm copper so new feed will be made from thereabouts.

They don`t have a bath so hot water is not too important but may be changing current electric to a thermostatic mixer shower run off boiler.

I think I have included enough info except the address!!! Possible start before Christmas but obviously that depends on how much the new system will cost as the budget is not unlimited.

And lastly if you can either give me info here as to prices/type of boiler/timescales or leave me your contacts details if you are in the Great Barr/Hamstead area and also must be gas safe registered.

welcome inuildbulidngs , glad to see youve done the ebst thing and get a Qualified person in . youd be amazed how many dont i went to one a few month back with that many leaks on it i ended up re-piping the lot . this was done by a builder who had checked it all with a u gauge lol

am sure someone will sort you out.stick around

Probably a little too far for me in Halesowen.
But rough price would be £3000 and would include either Intergas, Vaillant or Worcester.

do you know what the cold mains supply is like?

sounds like a combi would be best suited to the property as it has low hot water demands.

just priced one and all the gear was 3k +2k labour how can you fit it for 3k ,wish I had a house and get one fitted for that much !

I would say £3k is not a bad guesstimate , average house has 90 to 100 meters of pipework going into central heat circuit i would say materials £2k to £2.5 at rough guess

£2000-£3000, are you guys on about just materials? or is that including labour???-cause if it is good luck.

Priced up a 6 rader with viessman combi not that long ago was about £2.7 k or so if i recall all in

it all depends on what you fit...... get what you pay for as always.

As we have all said, this a rough estimate, and it would cost about £2200 to 2400 for Vaillant boiler and rad pack, pipe etc. You lot need to get a decent supplier, plus its about 4 days labour, if £200 per day is not enough for you then good luck to you all.

is it tin on the outside? if so it will possibly have metal RSJ's holding up floor. So a magnetic drill may need to be hired.

I see where the problem with differing prices come from on this site, its all down to the speed of the workmen, I price the jobs on the speed I work at, not the speed others may do it in.
I could do this in 4 days easily, hence I would be charging 4 days labour in the quote. If it takes some of you 5,6 or 7 days your price will obviously be higher.

going up will increase material cost, hire a drill for an hour problem solved.

sounds like its similar to a bison concrete house they have two steels usually come up and over with two air pips on the skirting

£60-£100 to hire drill and buy bit if i remember..... unless you know somebody who has one.
