No hot water when heating is on.

The problem is when the gas central heating is on I get very little hot water out the shower. When the heating is off there is plenty of hot water.

I have set the thermostat to have the hot water come on a hour first to the heating a vi've versa.

It's a potterton superprima and mixer gravity Fed shower.

Depending on application.
just a case of how you wire it up.

Ive seen it used in a b and b to to heat bedrooms before comunal areas while hot water is on its own two port.

Boiler flow to A and B A=hot water B=radiator Wires grey=hot water White=radiators.. ne knew you were studying for plumbers..

You have the A & B the wrong way , B to hot water, easy to remember B = Bath.

to get a spot on answer to your question these guys here need a lot more information from you, like this.

1) do you have a hot water cylinder, I take you have with this comment " I have set the thermostat to have the hot water come on a hour first to the heating a vi've versa"
2) do you mean the flow of hot water to the shower is bad or the temperature is low
3) has this just happened or as it always been like this since you moved in
4) If you run the kitchen tap and the heating is on is the water temp low then

I will think of some more in a minute my head hurts just now! Answer these first

I have also rang my landlord. Just to make you guys happy!

Its mainly so I have at least a starting point to maybe getting it fixed. Should just act daft and waste his time.

Is this the problem, that you are messing with the thermostat ? or do you mean the time control (programmer) if water from taps is OK then fault is with shower, may find that cold water to shower is connected to mains water and not to tank in loft, have you got a separate shower or one that is connected to bath taps ?

If the cylinder is full of hot water you should get hot water at the taps in the kitchen and the bathroom, now what is wrong with that shower, look tell me this, if you run the wash basin tap which is next to the shower, boiler on or off cylinder full of hot water what do you get out of the WB tap, if the water is hot and the shower isn't they are next to each other, it must be the shower valve.thermostat hey, is that possible, tell us step by step.

Nope.
Gravity hot water means seperate unpumped supply from boiler to cylinder coil. On this system his hot water cylinder would heat up regardless of the heating being on.

He is therefore likely to be on an s or a y plan with two pipe boiler. As already suggested from the description given its likely to be a balancing issue. Hot water only means heating valve shut and circuit pumps through the coil and gives piping hot water. With demand for both the water takes the path of least resistance which is through the heating circuit to the detriment if the coil.

Today I had just the water on option 2 and didn't get as warm as usual which may point to the shower thermostat as it has to be at 75% to get to just warm. So the help is appreciated guys.

Easiest way to tell if its the shower is to wait till the shower is only luke warm and check hw at the taps. If its hot at the taps and only warm at the shower the fault lies with the shower or with the pipe arrangement to the shower.
