I'm not a plumber but having jusy had a new kitchen the plumber seemed unsure whether the red gate valve next to the c/h pump and cylinder should be open or closed.

Any advice ? (some of my upstairs rads dont now work and there seems to be the sound of bubbles rising in the cylinder when the heating starts).

Its between plastic box which says actuator on it and the cylinder, (where it connects part way up where the pipe coming out also has a bit sticking up vertically as well as coming out horizontally to the gate valve).

Thanks I'll try it.

Also, I have an old rad that wont bleed, as the bleed screw is rounded.

Any suggestions other than changing the rad ?
