Hi All

Im new to this, recently qualified and looking forward to finally making a start!

Where does everyone get their supplies from? I dont really want to be buying in bulk yet as i dont have the funds for it.

What would you all recommend?

James

Usually the type of work you do dictates what supplies you need.

Smoke matches, smoke bombs, leak detector spray, PRS tape, spray on adhesive, (If doing gas fires, you usually find PRS tape won't stick so well, give the wall a spray and it helps) gas valve grease, gas PTFE tape, gas jointing compound are all usual if your servicing.

You could go on, but as cash is a problem just get the stuff for the job's in hand and build up from there.

If your doing Plumbing, then PTFE tape, jointing compound, cones/rings/olives varying sizes, couple of couplers, usually stuff for soldering joints and so on.

You could go on for ages.

It all depends as I said what your doing.

Good Fortune!

I tend to use a couple of local plumbing merchants and Screwfix.

Once you get your feet on the floor you might well find you've bought enough to get a small trade discount at the local plumbing merchant but you cannot expect them to give you a discount until you've bought some products. Treat them fairly and they will treat you well.

Local merchants are the best - you can qiuckly build some repor with them and i found they were willing to give discounts within the first 3 or 4 visits. They want the business!
I prefer Hargreaves for most gas and water materials, they have even matched my local STAX radiator prices (which were cheapest anywhere) and its a better rad!
I also find UK gas spares very helpful and fast at getting parts for gas appliances.
Personally i dont touch screwfix as everything they sell is the lowest quality tabout and IMHO only brings me problems.
DOWN WITH BIG COMPANIES!! SUPPORT THE LITTLE PEOPLES!!

I use 2 merchants. grahams is my preferred one, been spending so much money in there now that they gave me a 45% trade discount on a glowworm boiler. not bad eh?

sometimes i use the likes of screwfix and tooled up but only for small things or tools i need,

bigger bits i buy from the local merchants as its easy to send it back if its faulty with no quibbles. :D
