Toyota HiAce for reliability. Previous van did 320K miles no major problems.(P reg). Later model with D4D engine, timing belt runs off fuel pump, makes timing belt change simple. Remove battery, timing cover, easy access, one hour job. Van vault for security, behind bulkhead, with sheet of ply over vault and wheel arches to cover additional toolboxes, and deter envious eyes, loading area on ply for radiators etc. Only drawback, shortwheel base model does not take 8x4 sheets. Happy motoring.

At last someone who knows about vans. Toyota are brilliant. You know what they say in oz, if you want to go to the outback take a landrover. If you want to come back take a landcruiser.

Can you still buy hiace? I mean new ones?

No, the engines don't meet the new emissions. Some dealers have still got some hanging around. There doing a new pro ace Wich is a Peugeot with a Toyota badge on it. Avoid.

Bought a high mileage rav4 diesel this week (140k) 2 days later went into limp mode down to 5mph on a 70mph road with just our lass in luckily the dealer has refunded me

Unlucky, though on the whole the most reliable manufacturer. full stop.

If Honda made vans they would be very successful I bet! The most important thing about a van is reliability for most people!

You say that but hiace vans are pretty much bomb proof, but there ugly and slow. So no one buys em.
