I was looking at a Worcester greenstar 15ri conventional boiler, but it doesn't seem to have HW controls, just CH on/off. Does anyone know how/if it heats water without having CH on?

There is a pump that comes on when the boilers on, I think it's just pumping it to the hot water tank, it doesn't come on unless HW is switched on at the boiler, but it's gravity fed from the tank to the tap

The hot water is heated via the coil in the hot water cylinder. The boiler produces the heated water and your external motorised valves, cylinder thermostat and room stat control if the water goes to your radiators or through the coil to heat the HW.

Your system may need some upgrading if it's very old to a fully pumped.
