Hi,

I would like some suggestion please, i am a new trained plumber (march 2008) Today i was on a job when i was asked to have a look at this guys rad that was leaking, to cut a long story short i caused a small spillage onto his organic carpet, his wife rang me to say they are going to replace the whole carpet, which is organic, (insurance job) Does anyone have any advice on a carpet cleaning product that may remove this dark stain, bearing in mind that the carpet is organic.

Dale.

whats it made from carrot tops ?

don't know of a organic carpet cleaner.
are they willing to let you try cleaning it ?

I don't know what it is made from, the chap tried to clean it with some sort of detergent, I am back there tomorrow to finish my work, (three loos, two basins)
I will ask if they will let me have a go, (might try carpet wise for advice).
This rad was a favour to him because it was leaking and was not quoted for, i wish i had said no, his missus was right off with me. She, i am sure wats to knock it off my bill, i will let the insurance company sort it out i think.

forgot to say, there was already a stain on the carpet from the leak that had been going on for a long time

Ha ha ...classic.. mate they should definately let you clean it, it will come off with some normal vanish if it is a small amount ,, they are sending you up mate. Take photos of it yourself and seek an estimation incase they bill you for it as it sounds like a classic " you can't just get these anywhere it is organic" nonsense I take it organic means its just made of wool. LOL we have got to have a thread of the week competition this is definately a winner. Good luck mate

I will insist they let me have a go, she got a bit uptight when i mentioned the insurance companies, so you are right, she thinks she can bill me or take it out of my bill, i will also get an estimate.

Thanks for the advice

do the rest of the work get paid and give them their invoice etc who's to prove you touched the rad its not in the quote, its not on the invoice, they got to prove you touched the rad. f*** em

get in get out don't look back.

always make sure you use dust sheets etc even in the hall way customers are slippery always cover ya arse.

insurance will love you.

if she thinks she can deduct it from the bill tell her no the insurance are dealing with it then she must pay you your full money.

I tricky situation and one which you'll learn a hard lesson by, I use a wet and dry vac when working on a rad, also plenty of sheets.

What were you trying to do with the rad, change the valve or was it leaking from the nut and olive or splindle?

His wife sounds like the type of customer which I avoid, I mean what the hell is an organic carpet?.

All I know is, I dripped black sludge on a light carpet once and it all came off with carpet cleaner in my wet & dry vac. :)

The rad was leaking from the the top of the valve (thermostat) they were ancient, i had to get a reducer and new valves (yes i know "some favour") i thought the new valve was shut off and all the water was out of the rad but it wasn't, i had thick towels on the carpet but stumbled and the water went onto the carpet by the side of the towels, my fault and i hold my hands up, should have got more protection but didn't, so i pay a price.
thanks for the advice and i will have a go with a carpet cleaner and vac

keep the faulty rad valve if you go down the insurance path and tell your insurance its been leaking for ages and don't clean any marks of limescale etc off it you'll be surprised what they use to not pay a claim.

and never admit anything till proven.

Got them in the van, so will keep hold of them, my only worry is she will hold on to the money for the work i have done.
Anyway they agreed in writng to pay me on completion of the stated work so maybe i am worrying about nothing

tell them insurance is dealing. then they have to pay what is owed or tell them small claims court make your choice. don't worry about not getting any more work cause they probably won't call you any way.

wasters them sort of customers. then they maybe ok. see how it go's with the cleaning part first.

if she holds on to any money say £100 tell her i'll take the toilet and bring it back when you pay the £100.
all parts remain yours till paid for simple.

We had a splash of the black sludge on a c ustomers carpet, typically just as we walked off the dust sheet lol. it was a patch easily 8cm in diamater...i was petrified but just used kitchen towel and drenched it in water and kept soaking it up with kitchen towel.

Completely vanished in about 10 mins of this action...i dont think the stuff stains at all if your quick..

Sonray? is it legal to take the toilet away if they haven't paid? im sure my brothers solicitior advised him once that you CAN NOT leave a customer without those services.

yes you are correct but as dalegooderham said his fitting 3 toilets one won't matter LOL.
i just used the toilet as a figure of speech. but useally they will pay when you mention that to them.

but as i state on all paperwork parts remain the property of ------ to paid for.
