That's because they don't know you Steve. Become a regular, and you will soon get the lackadaisical attitude and whimsical contempt that all merchants are specially trained for. :)

Only kidding. Thanks for the positive feedback - I will pass it on to the troops in Southampton.
theres a good idea for you ray...

a mystery shopper to test the troops;)

Far more importantly Steve what was the free tea and coffee like?!

The tea, like all tea from vending machines, is frankly an offence against nature and should be reported to the authorities.
I'm told that the coffee is all right, but I don't drink the stuff. :(

Ray my gift arrived last night many thanks for that. I shall review them next week for you. And as a side note I've had toothache and guts ache all night from the lovely jelly tots!:tongue3:

Could have been worse. Some of them went out with tutti-frutties. :)

Don't need it in a trade business. We don't do any retail, so all our business depends on trade regulars, and they vote with their feet. Just count the contents of the till at the end of the day/week/month. That tells us how happy the customers are.

Hi All

After seeing the positive feedback that Intergas have been getting on the forum, I have their sales people coming to see me soon.

It would be a great help if you could let me know the best price that you have got/heard of in your area - ideally:

Boiler model/type
Whether with/without fitting kit, flue etc and if without, what price these extras were
Where from (although this is less important if you would rather not say).

All help gratefully received whether on open forum or by PM - hopefully it will help me negotiate a good deal if there is one to be had.

Many thanks

Ray
hi ray,
are you stocking these then ? whats your prices ?

Hi Dancin'

Still waiting for their sales team to set a date. I expect they only returned to work today - I tried to get hold of a worcester rep last week, and of the 5 reps & 2 regional managers that cover our patch, only one was answering his phone - and that was the new boy. :)

Intergas gave me a price list and a discount, but that's obviously just an opening shot. I set up this thread to get an idea of "the going rate" to help me screw them down.

It usually takes a while to negotiate this sort of deal - at least a couple of months. No way I am going to take the deal that they offer at the first meeting.

I am not even sure that we will close a deal. If we can't be both cheap and profitable, there isn't any point, and its always risky to dilute the volume that I do with Vaillant, Worcester, Ideal and BDR. For a merchant, all profit in boiler sales depends on hitting volume targets, so there is no point in selling 500 Intergas if that means I fall 500 short of my target on something else. That could mean that I have sold many 1000s of boilers at a loss.

Re visiting this, have we got an update ray? My boss is mainly installing intergas now but getting everything else from your maidstone branch, its painfull driving just around the bend to plumb base,

also guys get on the intergas training, its free and an instant 5 year warranty.

Hi 1king55

It looks like they don't want to know us. We had a meeting scheduled with their Sales Director back in Jan/Feb time, but he cancelled it and has never called to re-arrange.

I have a theory why that is, but whether I am right or wrong, it doesn't really matter. We could buy them from a distributor, but then we would be expensive and I am not going chasing a supplier who doesn't want to do business with us. I'd rather keep on working with Worcester, Vaillant, Ideal, Baxi and Glowworm who look after us in return.

So sorry mate, I don't think we are likely to be doing Intergas in the near future. Unless they have a change of heart.

Ray

Such a shame. Atleast you already have great bunch of suppliers already!

Yes, good bits of kit that I have to source from PlumbCentre currently.

perhaps he got sacked ray?

Or maybe he was scared that Ray would give them away for free.

Someone should make a thread and sticky it for ray, where we can post up the pieces of kit, tools, fittings, boilers, consumables, filters , gloves and such for him to look into that we find to be high quality? Were at the frount of whats good, it would be nice to help him out?

No merchents seem to sell decent disposible gloves :(

Well ray can stocksome from costco then !

that sales director has left intergas. Can you try again please Ray

thanks for that info GasmanxxxR1.

I'll give it one more try, but if my suspicions about the reasons they weren't interested in us are correct, then it would be about more than an individual.

Other merchants who are making high margins on certain products don't seem to appreciate our trading style for some reason. :)

You think they make an above average margin on their boilers?

I think their stockists do. And since our reputation is to pile-it-high, sell-it-cheap its not impossible that some existing stockists have put the boot in.

Wouldn't be the first time. The other big boiler brands come under intense pressure from other merchants to "discipline" our pricing. To their credit, they mostly ignore it, but thats not so easy for a boiler that is still very niche, and probably dependent on two or three major stockists.

Interesting to know, thanks Ray

I recently went on the intergas course, the guy running it was interested in what merchants we use. About 90 % said williams and urged him to make a deal, he answered that he hoped he could and that the sales director had made a lot of people unhappy and had now left the business

Just need to get that figure to go national!

Was the bloke running it an Indian guy called Mak Kumar? He was my original contact, and was very positive - I know him from when he was the Heatline radiator rep.
