Hi guys. Ive had a look at my central heating system and hot water system after moving into our property. im no expert plumber but a competent diy er. I have a grant vortex oil condensing boiler in situ and was fitted approx 1 yr ago. However when i went to the programmer on the wall to call for hot water only it doesnt work. if I call for central heating the hot water heats fine in the hot water storage tank in the airing cupboard. Ive done a bit of research and looked at S plan heating systems. On investigation of my own system i have no cylinder thermostat or motorised valves fitted in the hot water storage tank. Ive checked the rest of the house and i dont have any motorised valves fitted at all! Ive also checked all rooms in the house and there are no wall thermostats or TRV on any of the rads. I guess this system was never installed properly. I was thinking of having a go at this myself to correct the problem. Im looking to call for hot water and central heating independently. Is it just a matter of trying to adopt to an S plan system and install motorised valves and fit a cylinder thermostat or is it more complicated than that. Ive a friend who is an electrician who could do the electrical work for me. Ive a back boiler fitted and was wondering would this complicate matters. Thanks in advance Jim.
